CDN is a short form of Content Delivery Network and it is basically a network of a system of servers that can serve the files easily from the nearest physical location. This system has become pretty much popular these days as it has immensely cut down on the time of uploading the required web information. All the popular sites such as Google, Yahoo, Amazon, and so on use CDN for improving the performance of their websites and making them work more efficiently and quickly.

However, now Google has made it possible for even you to make use of CDN through Google App Engine. It is a service offered by Google at free of cost and you also have no need to know the coding and other technical stuff. This service can be used by first of all downloading the Google App Engine Software Development Kit and secondly Python 2.5. There is no need for you to write any Python code but it is necessary to have it as the App Engine SDK will require it. In fact, the App itself installs Python 2.5 if your computer does not have it.

For making use of CDN, you need to have a Google account too so that you can sign in to App Engine with the same id. After signing in for App Engine it will enable you to create an application and then upload the files.

There are several advantages of App Engine as CDN. The bandwidth of your very own server is not sucked up through the use of App Engine. Hence, this will provide your visitors with unaffected performance of website downloading. CDN also makes it easier for you to check the updated files or batch of files by simply running appcfg.py.

It is generally believed that a good website is the one which can be updated in a single step and App Engine just enables you to do so. Another advantage of App Engine is that it can save all the versions of the updated files in the app.yaml document. Hence any version can be retrieved in case, if the latest version fails to function. Not only this, the App Engine also permits other people to work on a single application but the only pre-condition is that they should have a Google account.

Google is planning to make Google Wave publically available in the first half of 2010 however; the developers are as now trying to iron out as many bugs as possible. It was reported by Lars Rasmussen one of the developers that their team has been clearing all the bugs in the system since past four months and now they are ready with it to hit a bit larger audience. Therefore, Google is about to invite 100,000 new users from tomorrow itself.

Nevertheless, it is not to be mistaken as a public launch as it is simply too early for them and there are certain issues to be sorted out before making it public. The invites of 100,000 is divided into three groups, the first one would be the people who signed up early to test, next will be the developers and thirdly a selected group of Google App users. However, it is said that the third group will be kept smaller in comparison to the other two.

The basic intention behind creating Google Wave is to improve on interaction and hence the team is giving out each invited member with 8 other invites. The invited members can thus invite their friends and family too. It is believed that the Google Wave ride is much smoother and it is loaded with lot many features giving the user faster and improved usability. Rasmussen added that “It will crash less, which is pretty flashy,”

Google Wave is friendly to use from all browsers such as Safari, Chrome, Firefox 3.5, and IE as well.

Carol Bartz, the CEO of Yahoo said in The New York Times that “Yahoo never was a search company”. The current partnership with Microsoft regarding the search aspect just highlights this fact. Yahoo has always been a huge and somewhat confusing schmorgisborg of content and services.

However, there is no denial to the fact that Yahoo has been at least over the last 5-10 years a huge and supposedly, somewhere around 20 percent of the Internet population uses Yahoo as its search engine.

If Yahoo’s CEO says most of its searches come from users who are looking for more information about something else they saw on Yahoo, then we are inclined to believe her. She certainly knows more about where and who Yahoo searchers are than us. Hence, cutting costs and perhaps improving revenue by using Bing for search isn’t necessarily the worst idea in the world.

Yahoo has lost much of the luster that made it the preeminent Internet Company of the 90s and early 2000. Bartz wants to build a business around page views and display ads; in other words, a media company and not a search engine. Therefore, this step of partnership with Microsoft is undoubtedly the stepping stone towards making it a media company. Getting people thinking that way is an important first step, even if the words used to justify it may be a bit Ballmer-esque.
